Dressing for Revolution: The Fashions of the Philippines
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

The Philippines has a fascinating yet relatively unknown fashion scene that weaves together a history of pre-colonial dress, the Catholic church, and modern revolution. In this special topics course we will learn about the dress of the Philippines before the Spanish invasion, discuss how the introduction of the Catholic faith deeply impacted Filipino fashion, and discuss how the Marcos Dictatorship used fashion to create a perfect facade that was overthrown by the "Yellow Revolution."
