Landmarks of a Life: Memoir Writing Through Nature and Place
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

From desert canyons to alpine forests, quiet trails to sweeping vistas, the natural world leaves a lasting imprint on our lives. This course invites participants to virtually reconnect with the outdoor experiences that shaped who they are. Whether from a childhood camping trip, a long-remembered adventure, or a single transformative moment in nature. Through guided writing prompts, gentle craft lessons, and supportive discussion, you'll learn how to turn your memories of the outdoors into meaningful, well-crafted stories. We will explore how place influences identity, how sensory detail can bring a landscape to life, and how reflection gives depth and purpose to personal narratives. No prior writing experience is needed. Bring your curiosity, love of nature, and a desire to preserve the memories that matter most. By the end of the course, you'll have a small collection of nature-based memoir pieces and a deeper appreciation for the landscapes that have shaped your life.
