Thirty years ago, the United States Historical Society asked thirty-three American Museums: "What is the best-loved painting in your collection?" The Society was not interested in the "best" painting, the most famous painting, nor the most valuable painting. They asked the museums which image was most beloved by visitors (according to sales of postcards, posters, prints, etc.). The Society then worked with author David Frankel and publisher Simon & Schuster to compile a coffee-table book that presents these thirty-three paintings and "a mini-immersion" into the art, the artists, and their worlds. The book is a masterclass in and of itself. We will meet together to discuss our favorites and our thoughts about this extraordinary collection.
