Painting is a meditation on creating your own world. When you put a brush on rice paper, each brushstroke transforms your image and leaves a mark like a peaceful dream. You feel a new breath emerging from your body and heart. Outside stories fade away. You begin speaking the language of appreciating life. In this one-day workshop, Osher members will learn to paint persimmons which symbolize communication with patience. Persimmons are also displayed as representing maturity over time. While you paint the persimmon, you draw the joy of expressing fruitful solidarity. With the diversity of so many creative brushstrokes, Asian ink paintings enable students to know and appreciate beautiful East Asian art. The methods help develop a better cultural exchange, understanding of culture, and respect for the diversity of lifestyles.
