Utah's rural schoolhouses left much to be desired and admired. Some might argue that a single-teacher classroom was a drawback if the teacher wasn't well-versed in all the subjects. The physical space could feel cramped and unsuitable for learning. Others, however, might cite the advantages: no one was a stranger inside these walls, and the familiar space often doubled as a community center, drawing families together for social occasions. This presentation looks at the advantages and disadvantages through a virtual tour (sampling) of Utah's rural schoolhouses and the history of the communities and people they served.
