American Sign Language (ASL): An Introduction

Discover the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) in this engaging introductory course. Build a foundation for conversational signing as you explore sentence structure, grammar, numbers, the alphabet, and essential vocabulary categories such as food, colors, daily activities, and more. Through storytelling and interactive activities, you'll develop expressive and receptive communication skills while gaining cultural insights. By the end of the course, you'll be able to hold a full conversation using a blend of signing, fingerspelling, and cultural knowledge.

Class Sections For American Sign Language (ASL): An Introduction (LLLAN 347)

Summer 2025 Section 1, Starting on: 06/03/2025

This class takes place in person at the University Connected Learning and Continuing Education building (540 Arapeen Drive, SLC). It is suggested that students bring their own copy of "The Perigee Visual Dictionary of Signing" by Rod R. Butterworth and Mickey Flodin, (ISBN 978-0399519529). We hate canceling classes, but sometimes there are forces outside of our control. Please keep this in mind as you purchase supplies and hang onto your receipts. Email our office at lifelong@utah.edu to inquire about the status of a class. This class takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
