Want the solitude of backpacking but with fresh food, luxury items, and a lot less effort? Would you like to stay socially distanced by exploring remote areas far from services, but don't know where to spend the night? Utah and many areas of the West are full of scenic back roads with areas perfect for car camping. In this class, you'll learn how to find a campsite, how to protect the environment in which you are camping, essential gear for comfortable car camping (think bathrooms), safety considerations, where to find detailed maps, and how to prepare for emergencies. While most of our time will be spent on how to plan and prepare, we'll also (begrudgingly!) give up a few secrets about areas that are particularly rich in car camping opportunities and provide access to wilderness hiking, easy getaways, and ruins of ancient communities.
