Course Description

Join us to explore one of the foundational works of global culture, Homer's Odyssey. We'll consider The Odyssey as both a key source of some familiar patterns of storytelling and as a strange work from a very different cultural environment. We'll also simply enjoy one of the greatest stories ever told-at once an adventure story, a love story, and an epic fantasy. Emily Wilson's recent translation is gripping and poetic, a pleasure to read and worth spending time with whether you're reading The Odyssey for the first time or revisiting it for the tenth.
