Each class will start with an overview of a few important aspects of the craft of poetry, followed by time for each participant to practice writing. We will have an opportunity to share, optionally, what we have started. Some topics we will cover include meter, metaphors/similes, form poems, free verse, line endings, and finding an engaging title. As to prior background in writing poetry, this is not required. However, it is expected that participants are currently reading poetry and are inspired to set aside time to write their own poems. Participants should bring something to write on (e.g., a notebook) and write with (e.g., a pen).
