Who Was Shakespeare
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Shakespeare is the writing name adopted by a man who wrote theatre plays, poems, and narrative poems in the late 16th century. During the time his works were published and continuing on since then, three has been doubt about who this person was. The name Shakespeare appears to have been given to the works as a way of warding off inquisitive minds as to the true, underlying person. This course dives deep into the question as to the authorship issue, looking at several of the 75 or so names who have been associated with the matter over the years, and proposes an answer to the question of who was Shakespeare. As Shakespeare's writings may be the single greatest set of literary writing efforts ever, with the possible exception of the Bible, it is worth exploring the matter in a fun, evocative, and challenging study course. For lovers of Shakespeare's plays or poems, it is a study not be missed.
