Due to severe weather, all Continuing Education classes on February 18, 2026, at 540 Arapeen Drive are canceled for the evening. The building will close at 5:00 PM.
More than one hundred years after his death, Giacomo Puccini's operas continue to enthrall audiences. The gorgeous melodies and personal dramas of his operas make them just as potent today as they were a hundred years ago. Each week of this course will consist of an opening lecture followed by several audio and video examples that we will listen to and analyze in class. By the end of this course, students will have a deep familiarity with Puccini's "Four Big Operas" and an exposure to the most famous moments in his other works. These lectures will cover topics such as the composer's biography, the source material for the opera, the libretto/librettist, the composition, and famous performers and performances of each opera.
