The Sound of Silents

Silent film is composed of silence, black and white imagery, the speeding up of action in the films shown at a faster rate than they are shot, the reliance on the audience as an unwitting collaborator in storytelling, and the live musical accompaniment. All of these make up the sound of silents, and it is a language all its own. Create your own dialogue based on the visual cues from the screen and learn how the language of silence is silent film's greatest asset.
