Virtual Event: China's Artistic Influence in 17th-Century Mexico

Mexican Pottery

Witness the rise of a transpacific cultural exchange as East Asian art arrives in 17th century Mexico. Learn about ancient artistic mediums of indigenous Americans used to create masterpieces in Europe and China. Examine ceramics with Chinese and Islamic designs that transform symbolism found in the origin myth of the Aztecs (Mexica) as East and West connect through the Americas. This special event serves as a preview for an upcoming Fall 2024 class to be taught by the instructor, Hugh Leeman. Hugh is an artist and educator teaching art history and technique classes in English and Spanish. He has been a guest lecturer at Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, and the Huntington Library. He is a lecturer and instructor at the Crocker Art Museum. His lectures focus on the manifestation of the spiritual realm and social power structures in art. Join us on Zoom for this complimentary preview!
