In-Person Event: The Four Seasons - Music Composition and the Climate

Quintet

Join the Aspen Winds Woodwind Quintet, a professional group of musicians, on a journey through all four seasons - including excerpts from Copland's legendary "Appalachian Spring"! The quintet will perform compositions by Barber, Higdon, Schoenberg, Boyadjieff, and Copland while exploring techniques used by each to emulate weather and climate. You will get a front row seat to how each instrument works (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn), how combinations of instruments create new colors and sounds, how composers use music to create atmosphere, and enjoy a full performance! Lecture portion instructed by Luca de la Florin. This special event is part of our 20th Anniversary celebrations in 2024 marking our Osher Institute's founding at the University of Utah in 2004.
