Informational Session: August Trip to the University of Utah's Taft-Nicholson Center with Joon Bae
Come join us for an informational session about a very special upcoming fall term class, A Trip to the University of Utah's Taft-Nicholson Center with Joon Bae. Six to ten lucky Osher members will be selected to join Joon from August 20-23, 2025 to learn about art and nature in this extraordinary setting.
Joon has taught Korean Ink Painting for Osher since 2017 and was the artist in residence for summer 2024 at the Taft-Nicholson Center. This special Center is a remote campus located in Montana offering environmental humanities education to educational institutions and non-profits.
Costs will be around $600 per person (depending on occupancy) and will include round-trip transportation for the five-hour journey to Centennial Valley in Montana, three nights' lodging and seven meals per person (three breakfasts, four lunches, three dinners), as well as facility, programming and staff fees.
This is a very remote, dark sky location with little-to-no cell phone coverage, although WiFi is available at the lodge. The class and three-day stay will include Korean ink painting and nature activities, as well as low-to-moderate levels of walking (up to one mile/day), sometimes on uneven terrain. Individual and small-group opportunities for more walking are available. The nearest medical facility is over 55 gravel-road miles away. The Taft-Nicholson Center provides certified Wilderness First Aid when needed.
If you are a hardy soul with a spirit of adventure, please attend the meeting to express your interest and find out if this class could be a right fit for you!
