Before photography, botanical illustration was the only way to visually record the world's plant life. Illustrations of plant life were used by physicians, pharmacists, botanical scientists, and gardeners for identification, analysis, and classification. Through the skill of artists, the beauty of botany was shared with the world. While photography has replaced painting as a means of documentation, these floral paintings are an inspiration for artists and those who enjoy their beauty. You'll learn about materials, paint application, and style through experience and demonstration as you capture the essence of florals.
