The History and the Literature: "The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club"
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Historical novels tell interesting stories about a time, a place, and the people living there. Authors must do extensive research so their writing accurately reflects the history. Using "The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club" by Helen Simonson as the launching point, this class will offer a one-hour look at the history of England at the end of World War I and after the Spanish Influenza pandemic, emphasizing rapidly changing political, economic, and social realities. We will then spend an hour discussing the novel as contemporary literature. Readers and history buffs welcome! Participants should read "The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club" before class.
