Three Years in Afghanistan: Reflections on Our Longest War
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

John Wecker served three tours in Afghanistan as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State between 2008 and 2019. While there, he was an advisor to Afghanistan's only female governor in Bamiyan, led rule of law programming in Mazar-e- Sharif, and was the political advisor to the Commander of the Joint Special Forces, Afghanistan at Bagram. During this lecture presentation, John will describe his unique experiences from that time, illustrate his lecture with his extensive photo collection, and share his thoughts on what became America's longest running war.
