PowerUp Chess: Introduction (Age 9-12) (YEEMT 57)

This camp is designed to help students learn the FUNdamentals of chess including basic piece movement, checkmating patterns, and other foundational principles of the game in a dynamic and engaging environment. Students can expect to spend the first part of camp becoming proficient in piece movement and other foundational game principles. Once mastered, students will learn basic checkmating patterns, chess opening ideas, and play in tournament-style chess games. Co-Sponsored with PowerChess.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Improved cognitive skills (including concentration, pattern recognition, decision-making, algebraic and geometric thinking, problem-solving, and spatial reasoning)
  • Offers a logical pattern and critical-thinking system
