Whether you’re already leading a team, interested in or preparing for a leadership role, or want to improve specific leadership skills, this program will provide you with the foundation for a lifetime of leadership. You’ll leave this program with a strong sense of your personal leadership style, as well as a toolkit of communication and collaboration techniques, strategies for understanding and motivating colleagues, and conflict resolution skills that you can apply within your team and beyond.

It’s hard to go back to school and also be a working professional. When I thought about going back to school for coding I realized it is a big commitment, but it’s worth it. About the Program

This program contains six individual classes focusing on Leadership and Development. Students who complete and attend all six classes will be awarded the Leadership and Development Program digital badge.

Schedule:

  • Each class is six hours of instruction.
  • Classes are held one day per week from 9 am to 4 pm (with a lunch break).
  • This program is offered during the spring and fall semesters.
  • Our classes are live and are not recorded. Classes may be offered online, or in-person.
  • This program can be completed in one or more semesters.
  • Classes may be taken in any order.

Tuition:

  • Individual class - $307.00
  • Total program - $1842.00 (6 required classes)
  • University of Utah Employee Discount Eligible
  • Financial aid is not available for this noncredit program. Students are encouraged to inquire with their employers to determine if tuition assistance is available.

Who Should Attend

This program explores a wide array of leadership skills, and is designed for a variety of individuals:

  • Current managers or supervisors who want to more effectively lead their team.
  • Those preparing for a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Individuals in any role who want to build their skills to lead those below, beside, and above them.

Requirements:

  • Attendance is required virtually or in-person for the full duration of the class.
  • Register for the 6 mandatory classes, achieving a "Satisfactory" grade in each. Upon completion students will be awarded the Leadership and Development Program digital badge.

Program Requirements

Coursework:

  • All class materials are held in Canvas. When you register you will receive a uID in an email with instructions to set up your CIS (Campus Information System) account and access Canvas.
  • Attendance and participation are mandatory.
  • Classes may include pre-work found in Canvas page one week before class begins.

Grading:

  • Classes are graded on attendance and participation.
  • Students must attend full class (6 hours) to receive an S (passing grade).
  • Grades will be available in your student CIS account at the end of the semester.
  • Our class offerings are not for university credit.

Our student success team will assist students with progress tracking and provide support throughout the program.

Next Steps:

After completion of the Leadership Development Program, students may consider building upon their leadership skills by enrolling in our Agile 101 course or Employment Law Microcredential.

While this program focuses on using leadership skills in a managerial role, weekly topics are designed so that you can use what you learn to help you improve communication and organizational culture regardless of the role you hold.
