Continuing Education Units & Professional Development Units
Professional Education

Professional Education at the University of Utah provides high levels of learning for all students who desire to improve their professional skills and desire to advance their careers. As such, all courses offered through Professional Education provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Professional Development Units (PDUs). The purpose of these units is to provide a record of noncredit professional education accomplished by an individual. All noncredit open enrollment courses offered through Professional Education at the University of Utah will show on your permanent University of Utah transcript.
Please note: Although many national, state, and local licensing boards and professional organizations will grant continuing education and professional development credit for attendance at our seminars, classes and workshops upon receipt of the course outline along with your Certificate of Attendance, each organization lists different requirements. Please contact your own licensing board, association, or organization to find out requirement details.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a nationally recognized and respected method of granting non-degree credit and offering professional development opportunities. One instructional contact hour is typically equal to 0.1 CEU. Please contact your professional organization to find out its CEU requirements.

Professional Education Units (PDUs)

The term Professional Education Units (PDUs) is very often used interchangeably with CEUs; however, the exchange rate of instructional contact hours to PDU varies by organization. Please contact your professional organization to find out its PDU requirements. In addition, many fields require CEUs/PDUs to take specific examinations for licensing or recertification. See below.
